I don´t have read it yet, but looks like its more a preview than a review

Probally like with the plextor drive they give a rough first impression and then later update the stuff so they can claime to be worlds first.

I've said this many times know maybe I should start doing reviews based on piece of media so I can be ultra fast and be worlds first. :-k

Also it states the following in the conclusion:
Note here that this is a preview of the DW1655 and a complete set of tests and burned media, as well as its LS capabilities will be updated soon, so stay tuned.

Then why label it big on the site as review and mention in the conclusion that it's actually a preview still.

Really the current focus on being first is making me

I appreciate how sites compete in trying to be first in the world to review drives. It gets something out to people who want to be the first to OWN the drive, but won't buy it unless they've seen a review. More importantly, it give me things to point people to when they ask when *MY* review will be ready

And *I* generally aim to be the last person to review a drive, since I'd rather spend the time and do it right, then rush and revise later :D

omg! we r so l33t.. we r the f1rst!! give us yer hitz soz we getz rIch!

On a more serious note, the results with some 16x +R/-R media don't look so good. I don't like the fact that Verbatim 8x DVD+R DL media didn't work at that speed either.

The 1655 is a drive that mayn people wants, I guess. It´s similar with Plextor-drives, everybody wants to be the first

As stated above, not me

I'm happy with being one of, or even *the* last. As Ian pointed out, there are flaws in the drive that need to be worked out. There is a very deffinate need for reviews done early, and later on. I think the "system" created by the dynamics of each site, work rather well for the most part.

Maybe I should ask the question over there but why under each graph on writing quality we read:

Drive info ID:1 PLEXTOR DVDR PX-716A V1.09 (#538633)

??

EDIT: ok I found out it was actually the drive used to read the quality of what the BenQ just burned. Doh!

Tell the truth.. once all review are out, easier to pick up a paragraph from each review to create yours, less work involved. ;-)

hehehe...

Actually, I almost never look at other reviews unless someone points me to them for some reason. It's more of a time issue then anything else.

Has anyone else been able to overburn an extra 500MB like cdrinfo? I don't have any ProdiscS05 media here but I do have some ProdiscF01. I was able to overburn to 4609MB. Is ProdiscS05 known for its overburning capabilities?

I asked at Cdrinfo, but their 1655 died. They hope to get soon a new 1655 and then Minos try to overburn with Nero

My local store said the 1640 has been phased out. :( Should I go for the 1655 for a new drive or perhaps one of the available NEC models? I've liked both my 2500 and 3500. :) Though my 1640 has no problems burning all my 4x media I have lying around at 8x.

Benq DW1655 -Is this drive going to get reviewed by CDRLabs?

I would have hope the replacement drives would have arrived. Any update on an official review of this drive.

The drive is only $50 and this pre-review is good enough to make-up your mind whether to spend $50 or not.
