Plextor PX-755A/PX-755SA Or BenQ DW1655?

What would you go with based off the reviews if money wasn't the issue?
Obviously the plextor is more expensive, but I'm willing to buy it if the product is better than the Benq. I've been tempted to just get the Benq since it's near impossible to find the Plextor drive anywhere in the US, since it's not released yet. I like the DVD Ripping results from the Benq reviews and the product quality & performance of their recent drives, but the features I like on the Plextor are the abilities to password protect the discs as well as the media & burn quality testing.

Thanks for any info or help with this decision...

I might end up just getting the Benq DW1655, unless I'm convinced into getting the plextor PX-755A / SA

Keep in mind that Plextor's password protection scheme is one of the easiest to hack systems possible... so if you really need content protection, it isn't going to be a good solution... if you just want something to play with, it'll get boring REALLY fast.

As far as media testing goes... the DW1655 can do it too.

So, you'd recommend the 1655. Cause I definately like the overall reliability of the 1640 and if the 1655 is almost the same, then I guess that should be my choice. I've had too much problems with my TDK, so I am looking for something that will be more reliable as well.

Do you know of any free ware or software that can password protect media, so you cannot see or modify data until a password is given? Thanks!

I believe WinOnCD 6 has a encryption option, but it isn't really freeware.

I'd sooner recommend the DW1640, since it's a time tested drive, but since it's available almost nowhere anymore, the DW1655 would be my next best suggestion.

As for encryption, sorry I've got no idea. But I'd suggest focusing on file encryption, and not disc encryption.

I use File2File. It is free, small, very secure and easy to use.

All of th data is encrypted using the password as the key.

Another thing worth checking out might be Hexalock CD-Rs:

It depends on how badly you need your data encrypted though.

Yep, WinonCD 6 has encryption function for example 3DES 168 bits.

I think you can get for cheap on Ebay.
