Just an FYI to people that I've spoken with Maxell today, and I've received word that their 16x media will begin appearing in big box stores (BestBuy, Futureshop, Staples, Walmart, etc...) starting in February, so REALLY soon!. It'll be a phasing in process, with the old 8x media being used until it runs out.

For professional line products, the 16x version has no current ETA, but 8x will continue to be made available.

Also, the 16x media will be outsourced to Taiwan, no official word on who it will be, but CMC or Ritek are likely guesses.

In other news, Maxell is about to release a whole slew of Compact Flash, and USB drives onto the market. Pricing is expected to be on par with Sandisk, with promises of higher quality and support.

In other OTHER news, Maxell has been made aware by PHYSICAL demonstration, of the bonding issues inherint in their media. Sadly, the reps from Maxell had no finger nails, and were unable to test the product themselves, but promised to speak with their plant in Japan regarding the issue.

That's all for now! :D

They needed to make sure they could outsource it to cheap manufacturers to meet Walmart's price requirements first :P

That's funny. I never buy media at Walmart since its usually more expensive than say Best Buy or Staples.

Over here Walmart is JUST getting into the blank media game seriously... but yeah, Futureshop/Bestbuy has always been the big players here in Canada.
