Some members over at CDFreaks have proven that these are BTC drives. Stay Away from them...

Yeah, their non-LightScribe drives are usually BTC. After my last two BTC drives failed, you'd have to pay me $40 to take one.

If you're looking for the DW1655 and want a good price, note that Future Shop do online price match. I got mine like this from 119$ + taxes I paid 70$ + taxes.

Not if you're in Canada like DeltaLima and myself are  And you're comparing $59 USD to $70 CAD, which is about the same.

Stating "these driveS died mid-way through the testing process".

DeltaLima,

How do you get Future Shop to PM on-line? And where did you find the drive for the PM? Thanks in advance.

For the BenQ I saw ncix.com selling it for 65$ and having it IN STOCK (important) then I went to the full order page that include shipping charge and printed it. The page just before you need to enter a credit card number.

They will match price and remove 10% of the difference then add the shipping charge (this is normal) and it was 10$ for this item.

Diff: 119 - 65 = 54 (10% is 5.40) so they will sell 65 - 5.40 + 10 = 69.60$ + taxes

You need to go to customer service for approval, the cashier cannot do it himself.

I also bought a SD card a few months ago using Canada Computers price but this time I was in the FS store on a computer and I just shown a salesrep the screen and he printed it and went to customer service for approval.

I don't know if they always do it (written somewhere?) but they said yet it wasn't a problem. The store need to be a competitor and have identical item in stock. So you may want to try showing an OEM price but if the guy is aware he will refuse it but we all know it could work, sometimes they check it fast and won't notice the 3 letters. :-) I was happy showing them the retail price because I saved a lot already.

DeltaLima,

Thanks man. I'll give it try. Both NICX and Canada Computer have the OEM version in stock.

Just one question about the retail version that you picked up from FS. Did it come with a beige or black bazel?

Black and that's what I was looking for since my case is black. Both are available, just look at the side of the box for the color.
