Unfortunatly, no notes in the Zip package so before proceeding I will wait a few hours (or days) if someone can manage to get the list of what has been fixed.

1. Improved the writing quality by updated writing strategy.
2. Improved LightScribe printing quality.
3. Fixed QScan hang issue.

That's what it says is the reason. Seems fine on my I/O Magic that I converted to 1655 with this one. It will not do Verbatim DL at faster then 2.4 still but all my other complaints having to do with the bulk firmware have been fixed =D>

Where you got that information? Maybe on the site, at the time I was writing the message, the web site was not responding.

How they have improved the LS quality? What was wrong in the 1st place? I haven't tested it yet so I won't notice but just curious if there was a problem with the previous update.

Hope they haven't slowed it down for better quality... I was happy when I read if was a few minutes faster than the previous model.

it's been up at least a almost a week I think. If you hit the pencil icon it will give the release reasons. I havent done any LS media yet so can't say if it's better/slower/ whatever. It does seem to burn media a bit better and my error scan speed is now what I set it to rather then under 2x plus all the qsuite functions work now. If you have a retail fw'd drive you might not have had some of the issues I did.

It's been up there for a few days. I'm surprised it was released earlier considering the updater is dated December 29th or something.

Has anyone tried it? I haven't flashed my drive yet.

I added a favorite to the ftp site with proper directory and DW1655 was not listed before today because everyday I was trying the link and got the error message that DW1655 does not exist.

Curious if this is the fw dolphinius was testing or if there is a new one in the works?

I dunno about BenQ Europe, but I saw it on the main support website:

I have it on mine, works fine, and fixed the problems of being a OEM bulk drive. Seems to burn maybe a bit better, I think this one will be better then my 1640 if not allready.

Does anybody know if the BenQ DW1655
with the former or this new firmware
is finalt able to burn correctly a DVD+R DL 2,4x with "Ritek-D01" MID code
especially these RIDATA branded DVD+R DL discs ?

BCDB still isn't giving the quality I'd like to see with TYG02's @ 8X(scoring 87% with DVDInfoPro/ImgBurn), does a very nice job with RICOHJPN +R's though. BCAB made a mess of TYG03's and TYG02's, scans showed very ugly starts(about first 700mb, Plextools PI/PO), which was actually noticable to the naked eye as being darker than the balance of the burn. This may have corrected itself after more burns, but I elected to wait for a/this firmware update.

I finally upgraded it then it asked if I wanted to reboot now, I said no.

I then ran the FW check utility and the computer froze solid. Had to reboot.

All seems fine now after the reboot.. just wanted to share.

You really should reboot after firmware flashes. Sometimes you can get away with it (some drives are more forgiving then others), but it's never a bad thing.
