Does DVD+RW DL discs exist?

Hello, I asked about this in another place but no one seemed to know there so I ask about it here to, hopefully someone of you knows about it.

I was looking around for some DVD+RW DL discs but couldn’t find any so then I thought that it’s maybe not possible to make such discs.
Does anyone of you know if it’s possible/if such discs exist and if it’s only I who hasn’t searched enough?

I believe they are pretty far along in development, but there are no drives that currently support them and there is no media itself available for sale to end users.

lol.. that's a typo. My bad.

I know that the DVD+RW Alliance is looking into double layer DVD+RW media. I have no idea where they are with the technology though.

Thanks for your reply.

Hopefully they could do it. I really want it if the price will be "normal".
Not like 100 USD per disc.

If its $100 a disc, you might as well do Blu-ray or HD DVD.

That answer is pretty simple.

If they were in the marketplace for retail consumption,
DRex and Hox would have theirs already!

And Wiz's would be delayed somewhere in the FedEx/UPS system! :P

Hey, Ian, that reminds me.
You don't have my new boots that were misdelivered to you after all.
I just talked to my bootmaker in Nogales and he said
that he is just about to start them. :D

I figured they weren't yours as they were pink with tiger stripes.

Great observation!

Well then, who?

Alejandra?

Guess we won't know until Wiz gets in touch with his FedEX/UPS guys and finds out where theu misdelivered them from?

From what I can tell, DVD+RWDL will probably never exist. BluRay and HDDVD are too close to being available, and there just isn't enough of a market for it. The only company that could even pull it off is Verbatim anyways... or at best we'll end up like we are now, with one good DVD+RDL media from Verbatim, and a range of crap brands all buying different flavours of Ritek made media which barely works (ok, the Ricoh MID by Ritek is a little better, but compared to Verbatim it still REALLY sucks!).

Isn't JVC planning on producing DVD-RW DL media (that's dash, not plus)? I recall reading somewhere (heise or CD-Freaks) that it's coming in March.

March seems a little early, but yes, JVC has demonstrated the technology.

JVC has developed 2x DVD-RW DL discs and is planning to develop 4x discs.

This might still be interesting, considering that the movie industrie will try to prevent anyone from actually using BD or HD-DVD R/RWs

I'm curious what is the developpement process? I mean what they need to do to go from 2x to 4x for exemple?

Very interesting indeed, any idea when they are planning to go retail, if ever?
