I've seen the 800A and 810A at Best Buy but the 820A showing up already is news to me.

Edit - Here it is at J&R: http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4076900

Why haven't I heard about this from Sony?

I knew it was a new model, but wanted it since it supported writing DVD RAM. (the 810A didn't)

My problem with it, or Nero 7, is that upon completion of a DVD RAM burn, the disk does not eject automatically. The Burn completes ok and is and the DVD viewable on my panosonic Desktop unit, and can be dubbed on the Pano to the Pano HD.

When you manaually eject the disk the compter gets a Blue Screen and re-boots.

No information on the Sony site so was wondering if anyone else has had the same experience.

The NEW Sony 820A is a ReBadged BenQ 1670... Yes, I said 1670 with DVD-RAM Read/Write Support... It's not the DQ60...

I know that some have speculated that was the case but has it actually been confirmed?

furthermore, it looks like the DW1670 should be based on the Nexperia Chipset and not a teac one.

It should be interesting to see if Philips decides to use this drive under their brand... since Philips is not one known for supporting DVD-RAM.

Even if this drive is repackage of BenQ 1670 the main concern is that the drive do not have LabelFlash or LightScribe capability.

If it is not for additional feature (LabelFlash, LightScribe) then what would it be the incentive to upgrade the drive you already have with the same writing speed, reading speed and writing strategy? Just to have another toy?.
