Pioneer Japan finally announced their new DVD Multi drive.

I'm guessing this is the main difference between the A10 and A11:

(1) Newly designed Disc-Resonance Stabilizer to further improve the accuracy in high-speed read and write operation

The Pioneer new drives' Disc-Resonance Stabilizer - the projections arranged on the inner surface of the upper case - controls the airflow generated by disc rotation to minimize disc warp which can be caused by disc resonance during high-speed rotation. The new disc tray with airflow adjustment holes also helps suppress disc resonance. As a result of such structural improvements, the new drives provide users higher accuracy and stability in read and write with quiet operation even in high-speed modes.

Let's just hope the media compatibility is better than the 110/A10 series.

Seeing as the specs are basically the same as the DVR-110/D, I wonder if this is Pioneer's attempt at releasing a REAL 16x DVD burner? You know, one the supports more then Japanese technology discs at 16x

I hope the FW is moddable like the 110 is. Nullz et al over at rpc1.org does an excellent job of enabling RAM+Bitsetting+removed riplock+RPC1 on the 110D (and ASUS 1608P2(S)) :D

Yeah the Benq1640 also has 16x burning issues that the 1655 pretty much resolves, I can't comment on media compatability though. I have MCC04 that burns better in my 110 @ 16x than the 1640 currently.

It seems to me that it's a 110 with a tuned firmware... The specs are not impressive at all...

The chassis is redesigned as well and its lighter. Those are really the only physical differences I can see.

I believe it's a new chipset version or something like that.

Well seems the only reason to get it would be if it just trounces my 110d/a110 or my BenQ's becuase of a better refined chip and firmware. I got a 1655 becuase it seemed it was doing better then my 1640 and supposedly 16x burns are cleaner, also I just like the latest toys
