Not bad, but it can´t challenge the Benq 1640/165x-series.

It underspeeds many 16x +R and only wirte 8x, it has problems to burn good quality at 16x -R.

Quote: "However, in the area of DVD-R the Sony DRU-820A is not yet optimized to burn 16x media with high quality result. We can see on Transfer Rate test on some 16x burns it will produce read-back problems at the end of the discs and also on the data side (burnt side) shows dark rings which means write strategies were not optimized for the media. Sony needs to investigate on these issues."

Sounds like the DQ60. #-o

The new firmware might help: http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/do ... A_1.0b.zip

I've been having a number of problems with my drive. I have a feeling I have a lemon.

Oh yeah.. their recommended media list is online too:

Hello!

Looks like Benq have much to do to make this writer good :-?

I´ve looked at the chipset, it looks like a newer version than the one that´s used in the DQ 60 / Plextor 750, some specs changed also (now 48x CD-R and 6x DVD-R DL).

Dolph, what´s up with your review of the DQ 60 ;) ?

I want to see how well a Benq with Panasonic-chipset do when the burns scanned on a Benq with Nexperia-chipset :)

Any other news? Is PI/PIF/POF-scanning and TE/FE-tests are now possible on the DQ 60?

I'm skipping the DQ60 review in favour of releasing a review on the DW1655 and DW1670 before they're discontinued

As for writing quality, I've not been impressed at all with it... but if there's any media in particular you would like to see run, I could always do a couple of tests just for you with them.

So far, the PIE/PIF/POF/Jitter Testing doesn't seem to work, at least not with Nero CD/DVD Speed 4.10 on the latest firmware (MREC). I haven't attempted FE/TE testing, but I suspect the same.

My review of the 750A should be done this week. I've been kinda hoping Plextor America would announce the drive, but I guess not. In any case, you're not missing anything by Dolph not reviewing the DQ60.

No, skip the DQ 60 and replace it with the DW 1670 :)

Both have Panasonic-chipset, the DQ 60 isn´t avaible in Germany and will maybe discontinued because they have the 1670.

Like I said, i want to see scans with a 1640/50/55, Cdfreals only use Liteon-drives which are not so sensitive like Benq.

And Ian release the review of the 750, so it´s not needed to make a couple of tests with the DQ 60.

But Thanks, that you want to make tests only for me :)
