Hrm... tough call....

Either a 4x CMC made DVD+R, which is back when the CMC media still wasn't performing very well.... or a Ritek disc from a B Grade brand (and Ritek A Grade doesn't last very long!).

I don't think I can answer this one, as I expect both discs to die within 2 years tops, depending on the initial burn quality, which depends heavily on what drive is being used as well.

Hrm... my suggestion would be to use the Plextor 740 and convert it to a BenQ DW1640. Probably the CMC 4x DVD+Rs in that case.

Still... when being offered two crap choices, it's a hard call.

Any other opinions?

I'm thinking the Dynex might be okay in this case. Of the results i've seen, Dynex branded RICOHJPNR03 has performed quite nicely. It could be that Dynex somehow ended up with a good lot of them.

But yes, it's hard to choose between crap.

I´m not sure about the F01, but the Ricoh R03 was very bad in the stability-tests of c´t-magazine.

I agree with Dolph that the Plex 740 should be the best for both media, but I recommend to look for other media, like Verbatim and TY.

So you guess the 4x +R-CMC is not very stable? The -R 4x was the first DVD-media I used, still working fine after 2 years; and after all I saw, that is much longer than with a few kinds of Ritek-media.

I had pretty bad quality results with my CMC 4x DVD±Rs back when I first started with them. As I haven't had any for quite some time, I have no idea how they'll work on newer drives, so I'm partially basing my opinion on the performance of CMC's 8x media, including stability tests.

Yes, that's true. CMCMAGE01 and CMCMAGAE1 both got a "++" rating for climatic stability.

in this case if i understand right philips is beter choice
I usually use fuji ty but i got 10 philips with hard dvd case for 2,99$ and only caseses cost something like that.

But how good is fuji

OK, fine, I should say that is it *usually* hard to go wrong with (grade A) Ricoh. In case you guys are wondering, here is one of my dead RICOHJPNR01.

It appear that all the defectives discs come from the same 5-pk of Sony RICOHJPNR01, and I have plenty of other Ricohs which are holding up marvelously.

This is why nothing important should be stored on only one media type...

Convert from crappy VHS to eternal DVD! Never worry about degradation again! (cause instead of starting to slowly look crappy you won't even be able to read the disc at all!)

5-10 years? I'd say 5-10 months!! Even Ritek media from reviews I did 6 months ago are starting to show signs of ageing.... although my Optodisc and TY media are not
