OK, finally went to Best buy to get those 1.2 Verbatium DVDs Ian found. Didn't have any...but they did have Memorex 1.2 CD-Rs, so I grabbed a few.

Results & Observations:
Label time: 20min vs. 30min. Nice improvement...but I was running Shrink w/AEC in the background...it might have affected the label time ??

Burn Quality: very good, better than the older Verbatium CD-Rs (but still CMC discs). Also: PX-716 recognizes them & will burn 'em at 48x!! The Verbatiums only burn at 4x or 8x  - I know, just burn 'em in the LS drive...but my Plexy does great on CD-Rs, so...

Label quality: Doesn't seem as dark as the Verbatium 1.0 discs. Maybe just the Memorex vs. Verbatium differance. I'll find out whenever my Best Buy gets Verbatium 1.2 media.

Quality scan to come later...the disc was only 50% full (audio CD), so I'll burn a test disc later.

All right, just got some of the Memorex 8x DVD+R Lightscribe 1.2 discs. The good: they're 16x discs. The bad: they're CMC MAG 001.

See here:

Image quality? VERY faint, much more so than the CD-Rs. Basically unusable; the image is way to hard to read. The Verbatiums are far, far better. Bad image quality, bad burn quality = junk media. I'll be taking the 2nd 10 pack I got back, for sure.

BB didn't have ANY Verbatium LS media this time, so I still don't have their 1.2 media. Hopefully soon.

I see you burned them with your 1655 (in you sig.).

The LG 4166 (firmware 1.02) seems to like CMC Mag : http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/262/5

So maybe it's more a matter of firmware...

How did you activate the LightScribe function in Nero 7.0.8.2 (ifyou have and use this version) for BenQ 1655 drive?.

I don't use Nero...hate the thing. Version 7 is still waaaayyy too buggy. But, Nero does have a LS driver on their web site:
http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/System_Re ... dates.html
It's the driver I have installed now. I use the "SE" version of SureThing labeler on the Lightscribe web site...it works fine. And hey, free :)

I haven't tried these yet in my 4167...did try the plex, about the same.
But considering how light the labels are...I'm going to pass on these. Hopefully, Best buy will have some of the Verbatiums in when I go to get the DLs they've got on sale...
