I just went to check on the media compatibility list for my 716A and I noticed they added a few more DL discs and changed the structure and highlighting for the other discs.

Seems the ones they really want you to use hare highlighted in yellow now. Luckily all my discs fall into the yellow highlight :D

Ok just figured out the other more important change. They are actually listing the MID code now instead of the funky part number which you may or may not have found on the label somewhere.

Much more useful now =D>

Yeah, its about time they started using the MID. The part number was worthless to most people.

It was even pretty worthless to people who *DO* order that kind of media in boxes or pallets.

I find it funny that the drive needs to use Autostrategy to burn RITEKF1, and only at 12x too!!

The CD-R compatibility list is interesting. There aren't many discs rated as "recommended," with MCC media noticeably missing that distinction. About the only recommended media that anyone in the US can find with any kind of consistency is Taiyo Yuden 48x.

I just had a look at the list for DVD+R media and noticed that YUDEN00 T03 is only "compatible"- they sell this under their own brand in Europe. :o

Also MCC 003 is listed in 2 variants: Mitsubishi Chemical (MKM/Verbatim) (compatible) and Mitsubishi Chemical (MKM/Verbatim) Rifine which is recommended. What's the difference on these? Is this the XC47A / X47B thing?

I noticed a few surprises as well and I was assuming a FW update would be following the changes to the media list since there do seem to be some changes. I bet we see an update before too long

I do like the format with the indication of R, C, A. Now if we could just get disc suppliers to label their discs on the outside with the MID. It will never happen though for the guys that multi-source.

You got it. The X47B discs are the ones that will burn at 12x and are recommended. The X47A discs weren't very good at all.

Not good is a big word here. It had some incorrect ADIP data which would make overspeeding hard.

No suprise if you have seen the comments that are there on some boards a webstores. Yes it works but scans are not great !! (also the PX-755 did quite bad when C't tested this media with this drive it migth be blaimed to the early firmware.)

On top of that in the full review of the PX-760A published by CDRinfo
this Yuden000-T03 MID code had a bad burn towards the end with the new 18x P-CAV writing strategy:
