The Benq-scans look not so good, but it seems to be normal for NEC-burned DVDs.

And i just wonder a bit, because it seems that the Memorex is better with -R (MCC03RG20, TYG01) than with +R

But I like the front-bezel, much nicer than the original NECs

Yes, I was able to eliminate the spikes on -R media but not with +R. Still, if you ignore the spikes, the writing quality is alright in most cases.

I have noticed on some of nec’s newer drives that the servo controller for the optic sled seems a little choppy than older drives. The 3520 in my system sounds smoother (low speed disc access so you can here the optics moving) than on my 3550. I have no idea if it is a difference with the analog stepper controller or with the stepper motor itself. It seems NEC has cheapened up the drives in this area. Have you noticed this also ? That and the LSI in 3550 is made in the China fab while the 4550 LSI is made in Japan ^^.
