For those that haven't noticed, the Pioneer DVR-111D has made its way to the US. Everyone's favorite retailer, Newegg, finally has it in stock for about $38 plus shipping.

I wouldn't bother waiting for a retail version. According to Pioneer's PR person, they aren't planning on releasing a retail version over here. Then again, if its not in a press release, they usually don't know what's up.

Didn't they get the 110D first too?

and the DW1640...

I think Newegg has been going downhill since their CEO retired last year. (says the guy who's never ordered from there in his life :P)

I ordered mine Saterday and it just showed up today. Slammed it in my external case just now, haven't even put the first disk in yet. Cost about 43 shipped, my 110 is probably allready retired after only 3 months service and a few tweaked firmware updates
Case is very slightly diferent then 110, has "speed dimples" now
12 bucks cheaper then local shop, and only took 4 days to get here after the weekend wait.
Now to waste some media and see what tweakage shows up again.

So the "D" models do DVD-RAM now? Does Pioneer make non-DVD-RAM units anymore? (remembering the 110/110D issues..)

According to Pioneer Australia, the 111D only reads at 5x.

I take it back about there being no retail version of the DVR-111D. I was at Best Buy this afternoon and saw the DVR-710.. which I'm guessing is the DVR-111D in a retail box.

Nice thing about those drives is the software, that's how I got my 110 for 69 less 20 rebate, as a 100.
Of course the software refuse to update being OEM but it is still pretty good package that does work well and doesn't care what burner I use with it. It came with the U-lead software suite of goodies.
