What is better dvd burner: Benq DW1650 or DW1655?

Does it do a great job in dvd and cd ripping?

Is it safe to use it as a dvd rom player too? or better to get a seperate one?

thanks

They're pretty much the same drive. The hardware is identical. It's just that the DW1655 supports LightScribe.

Both drives should work well for ripping CD's and DVD's. If I remember right, it only rips audio CD's at 40x so there are faster drives out there.

I wouldn't bother with a DVD-ROM. You'll probably get a new drive before you wear it out.

I going to use my dvd writer as a dvd and cd burner,cd ripper, dvd ripper and as a dvd player.

also going to use it for games that come in dvd format only.

so just hoping the benq dw1650 are solid and hopefully wont wear out quickly.

What dvd media and cd media you recommend for it?

thanks

I love my 1655...works great with just about any media. And if it doesn't, it's got SolidBurn (got some Memorex 16x DVD+Rs that are crap w/o it).

As for media: 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD+R or DVD-R, 16x Verbatium DVD+R, or Imation "Scratch Resistent" 8x DVD+Rs all do GREAT. Fuji 16x DVD+Rs work very well, too.

Here's an example of what it can do with good media (here, Fuji "Made In Japan" 8x DVD-Rs, made my TY):

Just avoid the cheap-o off brand stuff.

Thanks guys

My Benq 1650 arrived.

What the best way to check my firmware version?

Still not sure what media to get for dvd and also for cd.

What is best to get dvd-r or dvd+R? what speed 8x or 16x? and a good brand i can find in the stores. That will play well in any home dvd player too.

What a good cdr brand and speed to get also?.

thanks

If you don't have Nero Info Tool you can try the BenQ firmware check tool

Have you opened ther box? Is there a CD in it? What you are looking for is on the CD.

Upgrade to the latest version of Nero 6 (6.6.1.4). This won't cost you anything and will give you good service until Nero has exorcised most of the bugs in Version 7.
