LG hooked us up with their new Super Multi drive, the GSA-H10N. Since there isn't a lot of info on the web, I figured I'd post some screenshots and do a few quick tests.

Did I mention I also have some of Maxell's 12x DVD-RAM media? Works great too.

More to come..

Who needs an 18x DVD writer. This thing is smoking fast when writing to DVD+R and DVD-R media. My only real beef is the high jitter rate in the beginning. Hopefully LG can fix this in the next firmware update.

And then you have DVD+R media...

I'll post some results with DL media this weekend. If you have anything else you'd like me to try, just ask. I'll try my best.

You know, that jitter is so rediculously high that even what are usually unpicky players will start having troubles. It almost makes LiteON look good.

I'd have a hard time recommending this drive without seeing this jitter problem fixed.

Hello!

Nice :)

Low PIF, good DVD-RAM-writing @12x

But buck is right, this jitter do not look great

12X DVD-RAM =P~

Very impressive burn time... my Ricoh DVD+RW 8X are burned in 9mn with my LG 4166.

PS : is H10A@H10N possible (with a working 12X DVD-RAM feature) ?

any idean when the drive, and the media, will be available on the market ?

also, this Maxell's 12x DVD-RAM, who is it made by? is it Maxell's own media?
i presume: single sided, non-cartridge type DVD-RAM, right?

I'm not sure about the H10A@H10N. What chipset does the H10A use?

The H10N should be shipping soon as we recieved a retail unit and not an engineering sample.

As far as the media goes, it's Maxell's own. And yeah, its single sided, non-cartridge.

Hello!

This writer uses a Renesas, i guess? 16x P-CAV-writing

any info on it on any of LG's websites ?
last i checked and looked for H10 and H20 variants, i only found some in LG Germany's website: H10A and H20L

GSA-H10A
GSA-H20L

from what i can tell they're very similar, major (only?) difference is LighScribe on the H20L.

Either made by Maxell or Optodisc... currently I don't know if there is a way to tell them apart (Optodisc OEM Maxell DVD-RAM, and Maxell's own DVD-RAM).

Does anyone have the JJ11 firmware handy? All the links I've found to it no longer work.

There's GOT to be a way to tell them apart.. be it serials or physical characteristics. I can't see Optodisc being able to make a physical identical disc at Maxell, unless Maxell literally dumped all of their own equipment on Optodisc's doorstep.

It's just nobody's researched this enough, I suspect!! :D

Well, it's really rather complicated as it turns out. Optodisc seems to be making DVD-RAM for both Maxell and Panasonic, although just about everything possible is being done to make it so that people can't tell, and there is also a lot of internal denial of it. Really, if Optodisc hadn't admitted to it in the past, we wouldn't even know for sure! :o

ahem, so did you manage to flash the burner from JL10 (retail fw) to JJ11 (Jap fw)? AFAIK, the stock flasher isn't cross flashable betw. retail and Jap units.

anyway, my own findings so far.

I haven't tried it yet MacClipper. I asked my contact at LG for the update as well. We'll see what he comes up with.

H10A uses Renesas R8J32018FPV chipset.

And according to this thread ( http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=174602 ), H10N uses RENESAS R8J32018FPV too...

maybe a bit off-topic, but does anyone have any idea when:

1. other drives will feature fast DVD-RAM (12x and up) ? NEC ? Pioneer ?
2. we will see 16x DVD-RAM ? this was promised quite a bit of time ago now. i'm thinking maybe 12x DVD-RAM will be short-lived and 16x come soon.

i meant something more readlily available and with better writing quality than Panasonic :o like NEC or Pioneer ... maybe even Lite-On.
