Burning troubles with Benq 1655

I've got a minor annoyance with a brand new Benq 1655 I purchased from Newegg. I was in the process of moving files from a 200GB hdd to a new 400GB bought along with the burner I had some large mpegs that I wanted to archive. The problem is using Nero 7 Ultra and Fujifilm 8x dvd+r(Qsuite indentified them as Ritek 03 media) the burn process will start then shortly afterwards it will give me a write error I've made 4 coasters so far with the same error the log does not give me any further info about the error. CD burning and reading are working just fine.

The burner shipped with the bcdb firmware I flashed it the latest with no improvements. I tried a simulation burn and it completed with no errors and I also turned down the speed from 8x to 4x then to 2x in Nero to see if I was burning it too fast. I previously had an NEC 3540 I should have bought another NEC since my 3540 was a solid drive, but I heard all of this hoopla about the newer Benq drives. I was able to burn the disk using my 716SA.

Any suggestions does the drive not like my media or it is the book type, etc... I'm going to try a dvd-r disc too see if the drive is able to write to it.

why not post the Nero log (the file NeroHistory.log in C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero) and maybe someone here can help you more ?

Here's the log file I am burning a -R disc right now and no errors, I looked in Qsuite and enabled solidburn for supported media maybe that was what I should have done in the first place?

your log is cut in the middle.
also it contains lots of burns.
just copy the part of the log that pertains to the last burn, or at least to the one you're seeking help for.

Now you're confusing me you want this or that. I'll post the log from one of the burns I did. The log did not cut off in preview mode. I tried some Verbatim 16x +R media(from Plex 716sa box) and it gave me a session fixation error.

OK here goes.

1. the log you originally posted (2nd post in this topic) contains logs of 9 burns. they last one (the one by the Plextor) is cut off before the end in mid-sentence, before the last sentence you can see in other logs:
"Burn process failed at 4x (5,540 KB/s)" or "Burn process completed successfully at 4x (5,540 KB/s)"

2. the burns with the BenQ drive you can see:
2:21:47 AM #4 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 113
Writer E: BENQ DVD LS DW1655 running

2:21:47 AM #5 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3353
Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media

2:22:59 AM #6 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 289
Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB)
Last address to be written: 2038335 (452:57.60, 3981MB)

2:22:59 AM #7 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 301
Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD)

2:22:59 AM #8 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2715
Recorder: BENQ DVD LS DW1655, Media type: DVD+R
and later
Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)
which usually means media problem.

compare this with the Plextor burn:
5:32:47 PM #4 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 113
Writer F: PLEXTOR DVDR PX-716A running

5:32:47 PM #5 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3353
Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media

5:32:47 PM #6 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 289
Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB)
Last address to be written: 2038335 (452:57.60, 3981MB)

5:32:47 PM #7 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 301
Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD)

5:32:47 PM #8 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2715
Recorder: PLEXTOR DVDR PX-716A, Media type: DVD+R
Disc Manufacturer ID: RITEK, Media Type ID: R03, Product revision number: 2
Disc Application Code: 0, Extended Information Indicators: 3

if you compare the two you see that the plextor recognizes the media, manufacturer, detailed media info etc. and can burn it right. for some reason the BenQ does not, it just lists it as a DVD+R media - generic, with no special properties etc., doesn't recognize the maufacturer so it can't burn with specific burn strategy etc.

in a nutshell - use different media.
perhaps an updated firmware will help...

Thanks I had sensed it was my media. I would have gone out to Best Buy today, but I just got back from a Dentist apt. and I can't speak to well at the moment. I'll go tommorow and see what I can find.

I have some Verbatim +R DL media I bought at Wallyworld a while ago I'm a bit nervous about trying it in this drive considering how much DL media costs today.

Had a successful burning at 16x with a 50pk of Verbatim(MCC) that where on sale at BB for 14.99. I bought some Lightscribe CD-Rs I tried the disc that came in the burner box and I must not have made it right because it only printed around the hub of the disc. Other than that I'm happy it's working. I was eyeballing a 755SA that was next to all of the media it would be nice to have since it would rid me entirely of all IDE cables, but it doesn't have lightscribe support and it's 130 bucks which is expensive compared to the 45 I paid for the Benq.
