2 Problems with Samsung SH-S162A

I have several problems with my new Samsung SH-S162 drive. Firmware is TS02 (the most recent for the drive). Just wondering if anyone has experienced these with this drive or sister drives.

First problem is when I insert a prerecorded audio CD, the drive seems to spin down a few seconds into playing the 1st track, and there is always an audible gap. Subsequent tracks play fine (and the drive is very quiet)

2nd problem is that I was running some of the Nero speed tests, I noticed that there is audible noise coming out of my speakers (I have the drive connected to my analog audio connector). Faint but noticeable.

Any solutions?

Thanks

Is this the SH-S162A or SH-S162L?

The gap in audio playback is probably the drive's speed sensing function. I'm guessing it starts out fast and then slows when it realizes its just playing back and audio CD. There is software out there (including Samsung's own Magic Speed utility) that will let you set the drive's maximum read speed.

As far as the noise coming out of your speakers.. I really dunno. Try a different cable, soundcard or speakers?

Hi -

The drive is the SH-S162A.

I'm sure you're right about it slowing down once it figures it is an audio CD - but if I use a tool to limit the speed that would affect all applications?

The noise I'm hearing didn't happen with the DVD Drive that I replaced with the Samsung. I'm sure it is originating with the Samsung unit. Maybe its not muting the analaog audio its audio out and there's some kind of feedback.

Yeah, you'd have to turn it off for other applications. Here's a link for Magic Speed. It might be worth checking out:
