GSA-H10L - http://lgodd.lge.com/fwdrv/DVD-WRITER/GSAH10L_LL11.exe

Has anyone seen a chang log for these yet? I hope the JL11 firmware fixes the jitter issues I was seeing.

yeah, this was posted a day or 2 ago, can't remember if at cdfreaks or rpc1.org.
i' really busy this last week.
i'll see if i can find the link and changelog.

i'm so busy that my spanking-brand new LG GSA-H10L is still sitting inside its box, haven't had time to install it!
considering that this is only my 2nd DVDRW drive, this is saying a lot!

ala42 is German, but CDFreaks has strong Australian connections.

Congratulations on your new drive! :D I hope you'll soon get time to play with it and share the results! I don't have the patience to let things like that sit in the box :o - when I bought my second drive, I drove 120 km to pick it up so I could use it right away.

IIRC, this drive doesn't do PI/PIF scans... Or will you use your BenQ?

but i have to hand in my M.Sc. thesis by the end of this weekend! so the drive is in the box...

yeah, quality scans with the BenQ DW1620.

My post had nothing to do with any connections. This LG site just belongs to the sites I check regularly for updates :)

I believe that is the website their firmware update tool uses.

I'll have to remember to check the Australian site. I used to check the German one, but I'd rather read one that is in English.

maybe that's why it's an .exe instead of a zip file.

new firmware 1.01 for LG GSA-H20L added to the website.
Ian maybe you want to open a new topic for it (different drive).

Damn, the JL11 firmware didn't lower the jitter at all.

Ian, you really need to contact a DVD manufacturing plant in your area and see if they'll let you rent time on their Datarius or CATS unit... if they aren't TOO big, they'll probably let you. They might even let you do it for free

Yeah, that's the only way I'm going to convince LG that they need to fix this.

convince LG? wow.
i'll be much obliged.
do you think that this is at all likely? i didn't think a giant like LG listed to "little people". do you really have such an influence Ian ?

as far at the high jitter, well my impression from browsing at cdreaks is that they're not overly concerned with it. they seem pretty calm about it. transfer rate tests are OK and the discs scan OK on Lite-On drives. the concensus seems to be that it's a fluke of scanning LG-burned discs on BenQ drives, some weird incompatibility...not a big deal.
i wonder how true that is, how big a problem this really is.

i certainly hope it's not a big deal since i just got a H10L :D my second DVDRW drive (you guys must be LOL at this).

Believe it or not, a lot of companies listen to people like us. LG is a little harder to convince than say Lite-On though. However, when we say a drive sucks for this or that reason, they lose sales so they try their best to fix it.

You know my thoughts about using only a Lite-On drive for write quality testing. I will agree though that the high jitter doesn't seem to be a problem with most readers. However, it still shouldn't be that high. In some cases its nearly double that of the 4167.

glad to hear of it.
but i know that in particular LG is'nt that "user friendly". being a giant whose may concern are the huge OEM sells they make...

i thought the 4167 also had high jitter (not as high as the H10A/N/L though i admit).

well if you do manage to make LG fix this, more power to you =D> i certainly hope that happens.
but i wonder if it's a chipset problem and can't be fixed.

Hey Dodeca.. why should we LOL? I have 2 drives on the desktop, one on the laptop.. that's it. I doubt people other than Ian and dolph have >2 drives anyway.

Oh, and hi all. At work now, so restricted access to CDRLabs
