What to do with unrecognizable media?

I have a LG GSA-H10N and when I tried putting in a Mitsubishi DVD-RW 6X disc, Nero doesn't recognize. It wouldn't even let me format the disc.

I then used DVD Identifier and got the following:

[00:22:17] DVD Identifier V4.3.0
[00:22:17] Initializing Drive Interface [Auto-Select ASPI/SPTI]
[00:22:17] SPTI Drive Interface Successfully Initialized
[00:22:17] 1 Supported Drive Found (Out Of 2 Available Drives)
[00:22:18] Manufacturer Database [01-MAY-06@680$88] Loaded From File : (@680$88) Entries Found
[00:22:18] Internet Version Check Has Been Disabled By The User
[00:22:31] ERROR : Unsupported Medium Detected
[00:22:31] INFO : Disc Identification Requires DVD, HD DVD or Blu-Ray Recorder And Matching Media

What options do I have in getting the drive to read & write to this disc?

what firmware version to you have on the drive ?
is the the latest JL11 or maybe slightly older JJ11?

according to MCSE the JL11 firmware is supposed to support it...

Rats! I flashed it to JL11 and the disc is still unrecognizable. Maybe the MKM entry was for the '+rw' version and not the '-rw'.
Hmmm is there a way I can force or trick the drive to recognize it?

Nero InfoTool reports "-no disc inserted-" and the rest of the fields are 'n/a'.

You don't have any software (packetwriting, virtual CD, etc) installed that would prevent CD Speed and DVD Identifier from communicating with the drive?

No, I removed InCD awhile back. Even then DVD Identifier works in identifying other DVD +/- RW, R, and RAM discs. Just having problem seeing this particular disc.

when i was working on replying to this post (earlier) i got the exact same error message! on a Sony 4x DVD+RW Sony S11, that had been identified before and never game me problems.
anyway trying again and again a few times it worked itself out.
maybe a erawe will help too. did you try erasing the disc ?

I already tried several times today but it never did recognize the disc.

I can't even erase/format since Nero says the disc is not rewritable and to insert a rw disc.
Is it possible the disc is a dud? I never seen that happen to me.
Back in the CD-RW days, I had a drive that could read but couldn't format some cd-rw discs. Had to get them formatted and written on another drive.

Yeah, it sounds like the disc got messed up somehow. You could try erasing it with another drive to see if that fixes it. That works for me sometimes.

Some times if the written disc have not been finalized @ the end of writing process then the disc will not be recognized.

I was never able to write on this disc. It was new but my drive just doesn't recognize or see the disc.
I will have to try it on a non-LG drive to see if there's difference.

Anyone here have been able to use Mitsubishi DVD-RW 6x discs?

I use them all the time. I even used them on the H10N with no problems.
