when do you think we will start seeing sata dvd writer

there of course is the plextor one that is fairly common, but price wise, it is still a good chunk more expensive than most other dvd writers (2-3x)

i have the hope of building a new computer early next year, and am willing to wait till then to get a new dvd writer, but if no sata dvd writer is out by then, i think im better off buying one now, as my current dvd writer is only a pioneer 104, and there is a few dvdr-dl that i would like to burn

my main goal with going with a sata is a cleaner setup of cables inside the case

so what are the odds i would be able to buy a decent and affordable dvd writer by Q1 of 2007?

thanks

I think LiteON and Samsung are planning SATA drives... not sure about Pioneer though. I too hope for a greater selection next year. I'd HAPPILY pay $10-$15 more for the drive if it was SATA. Hell, I bought the PX-716SA, and that thing is insanely costly.

I think we'll start seeing a lot more between now and the end of the year. I know LG and Lite-On both plan to introduce SATA drives and NEC already has one (ND-3560). However, its only sold to OEM's like Dell. I almost picked one up off eBay a few weeks ago though.

There's also this drive, which I haven't had the guts to order:

well we kind of need more sata dvd writers, looking at all the newer 5xx nforce chipsets, most of them only have 1 ide channel

kind of limits your optical/hard drive choices

but people buying these systems should be going to all sata hard drives anyways

but that still leaves a max of 2 optical drives in the system

and i hate putting multiple drives on one ide channel, i need to split mine up and put them on their own channels

ohh yes you can add ide pci cards, but when the mobos only have 2-3 pci slots your screwed for expansion

That's why whenever you buy a new MoBo you should be thinking about expansion possabilities

there isn't an option on the new mobos with the really good chipsets

so yes manufacturers are forcing computer users to upgrade there aging antique hardware to all the latest technology

wouldn't it be great if we saw less posts about... help my ide hard drive isn't showing up in windows

or my burning keeps craping out

Samsung's SATA writer is the SH-W163. Here is a (brief) review :

thanks for all the feedback

and i do know that there are certain sata dvd writer available, it is just a real pain finding one,

hopefully the situation will change soon, i hate having to deal with legacy interfaces if i can help it, now i just need to wait for pci to go away completely
=)

i guess i will be playing the waiting game rather than buying another dvd writer soon *sigh*

Chipset producers like Intel are way to far ahead by supplying only one PATA channel. If we can buy a SATA HDD easily, the same doesn't occurs with optical drives.
