DVD+RW 8X

I know this topic comes up every now and then, but I haven't been able to source these online anywhere in the US even today. Does anyone know of a source for Verbatim MKM.A03 8X DVD+RW?

I use DVD+RW quite frequently to demo video in the DIVX format on standalone DIVX players without harddrives. I'm currently using Sony's SONY.S11 4X DVD+RW discs. While these discs are wonderful, they are still 4X. Has anyone seen the 8X DVD+RW SONY.S21 discs anywhere? Are they decent? Are they still Made in Japan like the .S11 discs?

Thanks,
Jim

As far as I know, the only 8x DVD+RW media available in the US is from Ridata and Memorex. Even then, I think the Memorex discs are made by Ritek so they're essentially the same thing.

I don't care what Verbatim says either. Their 8x DVD+RW media is not available in the US.

Verbatim doesn't think their 8x DVD+RW media is ready. I don't think *ANY* 8x DVD+RW media works properly yet though...

I'd blame the drive manufacturers.

It doesn't help that Verbatim has changed their media codes three times already. This makes it kinda hard for drive manufacturers to support their 8x DVD+RW media.

I have also been looking forward to the 8x DVD+RW media. As a second choice, has anyone seen any 6x DVD-RW media?

It's not that difficult to get 6x DVD-RW media from Verbatim here in Europe. I bought some almost a year ago from a German on-line shop, and they are still available.

These 6x DVD-RW media have worked well for me so far - I'm using them in my Sony RDR-HX910 HDD/DVD recorder.

I haven't seen Verbatim 8x DVD+RW media in any of the on-line shops I use nor have I seen them in B&M shops in Denmark.

I did get some 8x DVD+RW media from SVP.co.uk however:

Datasafe 8x DVD+RW (RITEK 008) in a 10pc cakebox
Ricoh 8x DVD+RW (RICOHJPN W21) in a 10pc slim-case pack

DrageMester, do you happen to know if those Ricoh 8x DVD+RW (RICOHJPN W21) are in actual fact made by Ritek (as other Ricoh media is/was)?

I've got some of that stuff as well. I can't say for a fact if it is made by Ritek, as I'm not familiar with Ritek's serial numbers/stamper codes. The jewel case states that the discs are made in Taiwan, so it should be Ritek's work.
Pictures/serial numbers etc here :

I just got hold of some Mitsubishi 6x DVD-RW discs two days ago. Burn quality is very decent for RW discs. However, I don't think those are a valid option as Mitsubishi branded discs do not seem to be sold outside of Japan and SE Asia.

I'm not sure, I don't have much experience with RiTEK manufactured media. This is not by accident. ;)

The Ricoh 8x DVD+RW discs are Made in Taiwan, and they have a serial number in black ink round the hub that is different from CMC and Prodisc serial numbers. This makes RiTEK a likely guess.

Serial number: V6100620B20 T01111802103

Another code in the mirror band: D0106B40111W

I don't know if that tells you anything.
