Plextor China announced the PX-751A earlier this week.

http://www.plextor.com.cn/product_detail.asp?nid=55

Anyone know how it compares to the PX-750A? Here are the specs:

Write Speeds
DVD+R: 16x
DVD-R: 16x
DVD+RW: 8x
DVD-RW: 6x
8x DVD+R DL: 6x
DVD-RAM: 5x
CD-R: 48x
CD-RW: 32x

Read Speeds
DVD-ROM: 16x
CD-ROM: 48x
DVD-RAM: 5x

The drive is obviously based on a different design than the PX-750A (BenQ DQ60). Any idea which one?

Well, the pic shows a BenQ of some sort, and I don't think it's not a DW1640 or DW165x because the eject button is too big, and because the DCS cooling system-related top is missing. Oh yeah, they also don't support DVD-RAM :P

It doesn't look like a DQ60. It can't be a DW1670 because it's missing the DCS top. The drive in the pic looks like a DW1620 to me.

Conclusion: I have no idea what it could be. Maybe the pic isn't representative of the actual product, or maybe there's some new BenQ drive?

You're probably right. While the bezels usually match up, the chassis in Plextor's pics are usually pretty generic.

The bezel is definately BenQ...

I replaced my two Plextors this past week with Lite-On units; one of them started failing. As far I'm concerned let 'em keep that damn drive overseas. Plextor is now persona non grata in my book.

Going by the placement of the LED and emergency eject hole, I'd say its based on the DW1670. Thoughts?

Only problem with that is that the eject button isn't the same. Plextor's reference pic shows that large eject button found only (to my knowledge) in the DW162x (and earlier?) drives.

Maybe the Plextor pic is wrong altogether? :-? Or maybe I'm just wrong :P

The eject button isn't much different. They could have changed it too. As it is, the front of the tray is slightly different.

The tray looks like a real Plextor, but the emergency hole and the position of the LED is similar to my Benq 1640 Bulk

It's available in Japan now too.

I wouldn't be surprised if the drive is eventually available in the US and Europe too.

The PX-751A is a Benq DW1670 clone that can be crossflashed to Benq DW1670 firmware.

At the moment I can see quite often Plextor PX-750A burners in shops around my place
Is there any news saying that the PX-751A is going to be sold sometimes in Europe ?
