Greetings all. Nice forums and community you have here. I have a question for ya'll.

Few months back I built a computer out of extra parts and purchased a BenQ DW1655 for it. I am going to be giving it to my fiances family. From what I've been reading around the forums this sounds like a really good drive. Anyways since I don't have a DVD drive in my computer yet(yes I know get with the times) is it worth the hassel to rip the BenQ out of that computer and keep it for me or just get myself a Pioneer 111D or something?

Your thoughts?

Both are very good writers, but the Benq can scan, the Pioneer 111 (not the 111D)can handle DVD-RAM.

Did u use these features?

I would definitely remove it carefully and keep it. You probably won't get your hands on another one. It should be a simple matter to remove it.

Oh sorry little more info. I don't do much burning to begin with and have never used a DVD burner, not really sure what most of the features are good for. This BenQ has never been used since the computer is sitting there waiting to move on to it's new home. I know most games will require DVD soon and I plan on getting a DVD drive. I'll buy a burner but wasn't sure what brand to get. Was curious cause I hear good things about this BenQ and figrued since it's not available anymore if it's good I'd keep it for me.

I have both drives in my main PC, and as good as the BenQ is, I slightly
prefer the Pioneer. My scans show it is just a bit better at DVD burns and
quite a bit better at CD burns. Its also a very good ripper. I think at this point the reputation of the Pioneer is better that that of the BenQ - look at
this month's poll.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.
I'm holding on to my BenQ 1640 until it dies.
