Burner won't read DVDs

I bought a Sony Dru-830a the other day and after I installed it I can't seem to get it to read DVDs. Movies or data, however it will read CDs.

Originally it was set to slave on channel 1 of my primary IDE cable and I had a Plextor Plexwriter as the master on channel 0. The Plextor works fine as well. Sony said that was the problem and to make the Dru master. I did that and it still has the same problem. It is on the primary cable because my hard drives are Serial ATA.

My specs are AMD 2800 2.09 GHz 1.5 GB Ram
Mobo ASUS A7N8X-E

All my drivers and firmware are updated.

Any ideas on why it won't read DVDs? Or should I return it and get a different DVD. I am actually not too worried about DVD writing I mostly just want it to watch DVDs and so I am able to install newer games that are only come in DVD format.

Thanks in advance for any help.

1.Uninstall Nero InCD(if installed)
2.Install Adaptec UDF Reader: www.download.com/3000-2100-10021086.html
If those don't work then get a new writer.

Thanks for the response, I think I am going to return it tomorrow and get another burner. It won't even recognize that there is a disk in the drive. Hopefully it is just a bum piece of equipment and getting a new one works.
