my nec 3550a, with 12 months and 1 week under its belt, (just out of newegg rma time) has just stopped burning. I have to get a new one.

my requirements are double layer capable, that's all. Lightscribe would be nice, but i don't think the dvd's i just bought are lightscribe-capable. I have just bought a pack of 100 RiDATA 4.7GB 16X DVD+R and so the drive must be able to read these. I have tried to read all the reviews at NewEgg but i'm left undecided. Price: say, no more than $60. Would love to listen to folks' advice.

thx.

Go for a Pioneer DVR 111 or LG H22N/L

I´m not sure what´s in this box exactly, RitekP16 or Ritek R05, can u read the media with the DVD Identifier?

my own search today has been leading me towards the LG h22, apparently newegg hasn't got the L version, that's the one i'd like. may have to settle for the N.

thx.

Do you need Lightscribe?

I still am not convinced the LG H22L is as good of a drive as the H22N appears to be.

For an all around burner I'd think the Pioneer 111 is probably better, or the LG H10 series. (my H10L outperforms my H22L in every way except top burn speed but I never burn at 18x) Try to find an H10L if you want Lightscribe. (Best Buy is currently selling the external version of the H10L, the E10L, for $79.99 which is more than you mentioned. The internal H10L was $69.99 at my BB. They might go on sale...?)

you wanna hear the truth? my nec3550a kind of died on me the other day, i was burning a 2 cd movie and i burnt the first one ok and then 5 straight coasters for the second cd, changing films and brands of cd. As the drive had stopped READING dvd's earlier on, I take it ithat it just gave up the ghost.

Anyway I'm looking around to buy a new one and i come across the term "lightscribe". New to me, I do a wiki on it and find out what it is,. Never had heard of it. So here i am thinking how way cool it might be to have this functionality for the future. That's all. Don't really NEED it, but it would be cool to have.

thx for taking the time to orient me.

ok, i just bit the bullet and ordered the LG H22N

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827136103

decided against a lightscribe model of any brand because i am not sure the technology has been fully worked out yet. read some reviews that panned it. It was a crapshoot between all the listed brands, they seemed all the same, but finally went for the LG.

thx.

If i were you I would get rid of this brand of media and buy Verbatim, Sony, or Fuji MIJ except for Verbatim and get myself off the trouble.
