Pioneer DVR-112 and DVR-212

Hi. So I've decided to buy a drive and followed the hails of Pioneers DVR 111 to find there is a more recent model 112 which again I have not heard bad things about. This site has got great expectations for it and other sites also seem to say similar things. Unfortunatly I have not found any 1 who has tested it yet.

But on my quest to c if I could find any 1 with major issues with the drive before I buy it for myself, I came across a site saying there's a s-ata version DVR-212 coming out in march/april (not sure when its out in europe/usa).

Again people have bigged it up with same expectations. I would sooner just get the 112 and get it over and done with but with a s-ata version coming v.soon i'm thinking 'patiance is a virtue' and i'll have a cleaner case without that huge snake of a ide taking up space and s-ata is supposed to make things speedier 2.

What do you think should I wait- its not like I desperatly need it I've got dell's standard one which is OK for what i've used it for at the mo. I bet i'll be looking at another soon to be released drive when the 212 is out and get even more confused! :-k :-s ](*,)

I'm not sure where you're located, but manufacturers have been very apprehensive to sell SATA drives in some markets. In particular, the US. Considering Pioneer hasn't sold the non-D versions of their drives (ones with RAM write) in the US, I don't see them being in a rush to sell an enthusiast oriented drive like the DVR-212.

What chipset did Pioneer use in the 112?

Well I'm in UK and I know some places here where I think they're selling the 112d version but not many have got them in. The fact that some have them on order and are accepting reserves on them now should mean they'll be coming in any time soon, and the non-d versions are already out. that seems strange I'll have to check again. NEway I'm just thinking to wait for the S-ATA version, I mean the latest it could be released has to be begining of summer around May and I'm going to be prety much occupied till then anyway.

As for the q on the chipset I'm sure the 112 has a NEC based chipset. It was speculated the 212 will have the MTK based chipset but videohelp.com shows that too has the NEC based chipset.

BTW I found the 212 on ebay in HK, but I've had trouble with buying electronics on ebay within UK and haven't got over it yet so it's the option of time and patiance 4 me! :-k :-s ](*,)

Want to buy DVR-112BK

I'm trying to locate a pair of DVR-112's (NOT the 'D' model). The problem is that, being based in the States, I can't find any dealer that (a), has the 112's available in black, and (b), ships to the US.

So: Are there any dealers who WILL ship such to my side of the pond?

Failing that, can the 112D be flashed into believing it's a 112? NewEgg has the 112D's, at least.

Please advise. Thanks much.
