Pioneer 212D - Can't Run K-Probe & Random Freezes

After installing Pioneer 212D, I can no longer run K-probe. When I try to run K-probe, the K-probe program splash screen appears, and just stays there doing nothing. Afterwards, the computer basically becomes very unresponsive and most other programs no longer respond. It's so unresponsive, I can't even reboot the computer - most times I would have to reset the computer. I'm guessing it's something to do with the software trying to detect something, or do something on the hardware level, causing the entire OS to freeze up like this. This also happens some times when I'm changing discs while doing tests using Nero CD/DVD Speed. Can someone possibly shed some light on why this may be happening and how I can fix it?

Some information that might be related:

System spec:
Core2 Duo
P5B-Deluxe P965 - newest firmware
LiteON SHM-165H6S - newest firmware
Pioneer 212D - newest firmware
My SATA ports are set in the BIOS to run in AHCI mode, as opposed to IDE mode.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That is strange... It could be that the K-probe is hanging up when scanning for drives due to the Pioneer 212 SATA connection. Can you update the SATA drivers maybe?

You might also try disconnecting the 212, running Kprobe, and switching the driver to ASPI from the Driver drop down menu. Then install your 212 and test again...

It would be easier to just disable the Pioneer drive in Device Manager, make the change in KProbe, and then enable the Pioneer drive again.

This assumes that it's a software/driver problem and not a hardware problem.

Ahh, good suggestion!

Someone told me that the SATA DVD Drives don't work too well with AHCI. I didn't want to disable AHCI, because I wanted to still use that for my hard drives, so instead, I just used another SATA port that can be configured as a normal IDE. After the switch, k-probe works and no more hang ups. Thanks for all the help!
