Is there anyone here who own's this burner or has used it before?
I'am curious about it.And being that the 760A,755A,755SA,& 716 are nearly impossible to find!
I might just settle for a 800A, Pioneer DVR-111D & Pioneer DVR-112DBK

It's based on a Sony NEC Optiarc design... not one of Plextor's own.

How are the Sony NEC Optiarc dvd burners?

I have it along with a couple of Pioneer 111, Plextor 760s and 755s. So far I have not had any issues with it. I can tell you this is the fastest reader /ripper among my drives. Averages over 16 X when ripping DVDs. For the price I think it's a good value.

One more thing, I am hoping the PX800 will last longer than the 760s or 716s. Of the 4 716s I purchased, 3 were dead within 6 months. Of the 3 760s, 2 died within 3 months. The 755s seems to be bullet proof though. The 2 I bought late last year are still working great. Hope this helps.

Just my two cents...

Why pay $80+ for a Plextor PX-800A (which is a NEC/Sony Optiarc drive) when you can probably get the Optiarc drive for roughly $30?

If I buy a Plextor drive, I want a true Plextor... not some re-badged drive. I currently have a PX-716A and an PX-755SA... Those are real Plextor drives.

Has Plextor re-fitted Plextools Pro quality scanning tools to work with the PX-8x0 series?

That is, can one perform C1/C2 and PIE/PO/PIF/jitter/beta tests with PX-800 series?

EDIT: Answering myself: no, they did not.

Such a shame, that could have been the feature which would have set them apart from generic Pioneers and Optiarcs. Of course, fw hackers would have danced around their protection in a blink of an eye :)
