Trouble updating firmware on DVD drive in Vista

For some reason I can't run the (Pioneer DVD) executable firmare update in Vista. When I invoke the file, I see for an instant a DOS screen , then nothing, no screen with further questions, and the firmware is not updated. Any ideas?

BTW:
1) The instruction made no mention of running it from DOS.
2) I did try running it in "administration" mode.

Maybe create a DOS boot disk and put the firmware update on there?

SM,

There are a number of installers that install under Windows that give a brief flash of DOS during the process.
I'm really guessing here, but that does not seem very significant to me.

Sorry that I couldn't have been of more help.

Guess I could make a boot disk (don't have floppy) but it's seems a PITA for such a simple process!

The brief DOS window is fine, it just doesn't do anything after that. #-o

I wish drive manufacturers would get with the times and release a Win32 app instead of the same DOS app they've been using for the last decade. Yeah.. I mean you Pioneer.
