Perhaps you better see if the "nothing special" version SB03 works better... Samsung posted another fw for the SH-S203B. SB02 must be buggy.

Thanks, I all ready tried the one listed and then codeguys read/burn speed version so maybe he has the 3 as well now. It really does make the drive rip dvd's at 18x and doesn't seem to affect anything other then making everything faster.

Thanks! Samsung 182D/182M series has a issue with over-long Lead-In.

Apparently cross-flashing to TS-H652D KC03 firmware using SFDNWin 3.25.4 cures this problem.

Some drives are having issues with SB03 any flavor and others do OK with it so YMMV on their last update for the s203b. My newest drive crashed while updating so I had to back down to SB00 then get back to newer versions. After that it would error out on just about any test burn early on and quit.
I drug out my older one and hooked it up to the external ports on here and it took the flash fine and is burning fine so far. All I can figure is either I have a bad cable or one drive is marginal and other is better suited to newest firmware.
When I dropped the flakey drive back to SB02 it worked fine again which is the weird part.... :o Others have had the same thing happen.

Yep, Samsung's are pretty decent... but I am using a good SH-S203B... there are lemons in every batch. I like Pioneer and LG drives too. There is not one perfect drive. Each one has it's own strengths and weaknesses.

If you are only going to use one drive in your PC, I usually recommend the Samsung SH-S203B. Pretty happy with it and have no desire to burn faster than 16x... so a 22x speed burner is of no interest to me. The 203x series is 20x, but I never burn at that speed.

A few more updates..

SH-S203B - SB04
SH-S182D - SB07

The change log for both say "Game CD Support". I'm not sure what that means.
