I'm thinking of building a new system this year with XPPro 64-bit and would like to know if firmware for the following drives will still work (or should I say the drive work properly with this firmware):

BenQ DW1655 DVD burner (BCIB)
Asus E616-P3 DVD-ROM (1.07)
Lite-On SOHD-16P9S (FS09)

I haven't heard of anyone having any problems with 64bit XP and optical drives. Buring software yes.. the drives themselves no.

Speaking of drive firmware.. I wonder if the updaters work under 64 bit XP or Vista.

Well, since you brought it up I decided to look it up.

Looks like my version of Nero 6 should work in x86 emulator mode. I'm guessing I just put a checkmark somewhere in the properties area (compatibility mode) for the program. Hopefully, this means Nero InfoTool and CD/DVD Speed will have no problems working as well......not to get too far off topic of course.;)

Seems like all 3 of those drives are updated with firmware as far as I'm probably going to want, but it would be nice to keep track of future drives and the updater programs working in XP Pro 64-bit.:)

EDIT: looks like the Nero Toolkit programs will run also!

Since I am planning to go 64 bit on the main system soon I looked up Gear, which is what I use. They have 64 bit drivers available too.

If I can't find a full retail version of XP Pro 64-bit, then I'll just get XP 32-bit again..........it's just not worth it and nowhere to be found. Maybe I'll go 64-bit on my next system after this one.

64bit XP was only an OEM product... BuyCheapSoftware.com may be a decent source for it.
