Today, CDRLabs brings you an in depth look at Plextor's new Qflix enabled DVD writer, the PX-Q840U. With this new external drive, consumers can purchase and download movies from Cinemanow and then burn a permanent copy that can be played back on a standard DVD player. The PX-Q840U also offers 20x DVD±R, 12x DVD-RAM and 8x DVD±R DL writing speeds as well as support for Plextor's new PlexUtilities software.

In this review we'll take a look at some of the PX-Q840U's features and then see how it stacks up against some of the 20x DVD±RW drives from the competition. Can the PX-Q840U deliver the performance and features that we've come to expect from Plextor? You'll have to read the review to find out.

I didn't mention this in my review, but the PX-Q840U has the same Over Speed function found on Lite-On's more recent DVD writers. If you enable Over Speed Writing in Lite-On's SMART-BURN tool, you can write to all 16x media at 18x and 20x. I'm really hoping that this feature is officially supported in a future version of PlexUtilities.
