Yeah, the external Samsungs are hard to find in the US for some reason and with the popularity of netbooks, companies are really pushing those slim drives.

What about the LG GE24LU20?

They did and probably still do make external enclosures that have USB and firewire ports on them.
I have a couple of old Vantec Nexstor2 5 1/4 IDE boxes that have Firewire and USB on them. The picky burner work much better on the firewire ports then they do on the USB one.
All you'd have to do is find a external box that can take whatever your favorite burner uses, SATA or IDE and then outputs it to whatever format you need for your laptop, but like I said, mine always work better with the firewire outputs.

That LG is a possibility. I've seen it at my local Best Buy, too, for the same price. It has all the features I want, and isn't ugly. Does that particular model get the official CDR Labs Seal of Approval? ;)

Sorry, I'm not real familiar with that drive. LG drives are pretty good for the most part though.

I've been pretty happy with all the LG drives I have too so it's probably a pretty safe bet if it fitd your needs and you just want to take a chance.

Going by the name, its based on the GH24LS20. There doesn't seem to be a lot of info on this model though.
