I recently purchased the subject drive.
I have a few questions.

1. An insert talks anout enabling the Optimal Write Speed feature.

When this feature is turned on, the disc writing speed will be reduced from the fastest possible write speed to the speed that will produce the highest quality written disk.

Is it wise to use this feature?
Any issues?

2. The drive is currently installed on a Vista system that will have Win 7 added to create a dual boot system.

It is my understanding that Win 7 includes software for recording optical media, including using file systems based on ISO/IEC 13346, e.g., the various flavors of UDF.

Not sure about Vista. The computer came with a Blu-Ray capable drive, but I'm not sure what file systems/media it can read/write.

The Pionerr drive came with a CD that has the Roxio Venue Suite, which includes:

Venue
Easy CD & DVD Burning CinePlayer
CinemaNow Media Manager

The CD also includes:

USB Driver
Optimal Writing Utility

When Vista installed the drive, it installed the driver for the DVR-216, which is mentioned in the Pioneer blurb on the Optimal Writing Speed feature.

So a question is which of the software MUST be installed in Vista?
Which in Win 7.

Note that I cannot find any documention in the files on the CD.

3. Is there free software for test an optical drive?

I tried the Optimal Write Speed feature when I reviewed the DVR-116D and saw some benefits. It slows the writing speed A LOT though.
