dvd-rw purchase

hi
looking to buy a great and good quality dvd-rw.....but don,t want to buy plextor...too expensive for me...can anyone suggest a great drive for me..? #-o

Most of the Plextors are now rebadged Lite-On or Pioneer drives, which you can usually buy for a lot less.

Personally, I prefer drives from Samsung and Sony Optiarc. Both of which are very affordable.

thanks for the suggestions.....i quess plextors untility software sort of adds to the price from what i can tell

PlexUtilities only works with the Lite-On based drives and you can usually get the same functionality from a Lite-on branded drive using free utilties.

i have heard of a lot of rebadging drives now....i also read , that one drive , same drive , used 2 different chips on em..believe it was liteon...sort of weird plextor has lost their way

Yep, a couple of the newest liteOn drives use either the mediatek or the NEC chip depending on what the last numbers on the end of the model are I guess.
I haven't researched it as I haven't bought a LiteOn dvd burner since my despised 811 8x ones that I hated but a lot of people still like them and they are one of the few current drives that can still fully test dvd disk quality.
Pretty sure there have been threads on what to look for here and on Cd Freaks if you want to check it out.

Yeah, Plextor is a totally different company than it once was. Here in the US, the Plextor brand is licensed by PLDS (Lite-On).
