Optiarc AD-7240S Problems burning on Verbatim DVD+RW media

Hello,
I have an Optiarc AD-7240S writer.
I tried burning on a Verbatim 4x DVD+RW media using the Optiarc writer but it's not working. I tried 2 discs but it still didn't work, while on another burner (LG) it worked without a hitch.
I have no problem burning other types of media with the Optiarc writer (e.g. Verbatim 16x DVD-\+R, Verbatim CD-R).
I updated the Optiarc writer with the latest firmware but it didn't help.
Using DVD Identifier, I found out that the Verbatim DVD+RW media's manufacturer is Mitsubishi Kagaku Media.
I'm starting to think maybe I'm better off replacing the Optiarc with an LG.
What do you think?
I thought that the Optiarc was a good writer (it was recommended on forums).
Your help would be appreciated.
TIA,
Splashy.

What exactly is the problem? How are you trying to burn the disc?

I tried burning with Ashampoo 10 and Nero Burning ROM 10.
Most of the times it just wouldn't burn and I got an error.
There was this one time that Ashampoo was able to burn and then it got to the lead-out part and it took like 10 minutes (just for writing the lead-out) so I aborted the burning process.

Weird. Verbatim DVD+RW media usually works with everything. What are you burning? Normal data disc?

Yes, I'm burning a normal data disc.
Earlier today I burned a couple of Verbatim x16 DVD+R discs (data disc) with Nero and I got an error message that the burning failed.
I think that my Optiarc has malfunctioned and needs to be replaced because sometimes the burning succeeds and sometimes it doesn't.
This is pretty frustrating since I only bought it a couple of months ago but at least it's still under warranty.

I've had 1 7240 overheat and have issues, my other 2, a new 7240 and a 7260 have been fine so far, the 60 even burned 10 disks in a row at about the same conditions that cooked the first burner.
I still prefer them and got the other 2 when good sales were on as they are about the best quality fast burners around right now.
As far as your issue I have found some burners can only burn so slow and if you try to burn slower then it likes Nero will throw a error and trash the disk. I have ran into this more when trying to burn multiple disk at the same time using multiple burners, but think it applies to one at a time too.
I haven't tried any RW media yet with it so can't say if the issue I found applies to you but it is something to watch for with regular disks.
I'll have to try some soon and see what happens as I have some older4x verbatim DVD+RW disks that I think are 4x rated.
You might want to try the disks in another burner and box to make sure it's not the disks but any drive can go bad and they are supposed to have a 1 year warranty as far as I know though they weren't interested in helping me when mine got weird after about 5 month use, though they said I needed to take it up with the seller and new egg only offered a 30 day exchange on it.
Other users have had better luck though if you decide it needs to be replaced.

If Newegg gives you the runaround ,contact Sony Optiarc. They put their foot in Newegg's a$$ and I got a refund for my defective 7241S.

It's ok, I went to the store and and they replaced it with an LG (I asked for an LG as I've had good experience with LG burners).
So far so good.
Thanks everyone for all your help.
