As long as you're using good quality DL media (Verbatim), you can probably go with drives from Sony Optiarc, LG, Lite-On, etc.

The IHAS124-19 is a Sony Optiarc clone. It's a good drive, but won't work with all the Lite-On tools.

I've never cared for the Optiarc drives for CD-R projects. They are not good CD readers... at least I have never had good luck with them reading burned CD-R discs.

They do a great job with DVD media though and I think they were OK for me with DL media too though I still like my OLD LG h22n for burning any crappy DL media with working results.
In fact the last few times I did multiple CDR burns I think the LG did great with that media too though I had to get the burn speed just right to get the best results. If you want a current do anything drive I think you'd be happy with a Optiarc or a clone of it, I am.
