Old CDs not readable in Optiarc AD-7260S

So I ran across some old Photo CDs from 2000-2002. I decided to copy the pictures to my computer. I started with 2 Fuji branded discs. They copied fine. Then I went for a stack of Kodak Picture CDs. Not one could be read in the 7260S. I dug out my trusty old Lite-On LTR-52327S (from 2003) and connected to my PC with a USB to IDE adapter. It read every disc without a problem. I wish they still made drives like this. It was a real workhorse! I used Nero Info tool, but it doesn't tell what brand the CDRs are. I suspect the Fuji are possibly TY, but not sure (code 97m26s01f). The Kodak CDs are a lighter color (code 97m24s45f). Anybody know those codes?

Only reference I can find for 97m26s01f is Fornet International Pte Ltd. Can't find anything for those Kodak's. You try any of the CD-R identification utilities out there? Otherwise Nero will do it if you hold down Shift and hit refresh in the disc info screen.

Are you sure you don't have the last numbers switched on those two? If so, then 97m 26s 45f is FUJI Photo Film Co., Ltd. and 97m 24s 01f is Taiyo Yuden.

Never found that any NEC/Optiarc drive handled recorded CD-R's well... Even going back to the ND-3500A. It just sucked reading CD-R's burned on other players.

I think I am going back to Lite-On next time. They seem to have better all around write / read quality to me unless one of the lasers crap out. Of course that also happened with the last Optiarc (AD-7241-S) drive that I had too. Maybe a Blu-Ray drive will be under $30 soon :D
