90 min CD-R and BenQ DW1655 ?

Is this even possible? Sorry I haven't been here in a while, but I finally need to try and burn a 90 min CD-R. I have 86:55 minutes of music (all of new Tool) and my BenQ is still running, but I have a few questions:

1. Is this even possible with Nero 6? If not, then I can use whatever comes with Win 8.1 on my laptop.
2. Will the BenQ DW1655 do this? If not, then maybe my Pioneer DVD burner will.
3. What CD-R do I need to buy? I usually buy TY 80 min CD-Rs for music.

Thank you.

I had to go back and check some of my old data but the DW1655 should write up to 99 minutes. The problem here is probably the media. You can usually squeeze a little more data onto an 80 minute disc but another 6:55 is a bit much. The easiest way to solve this would be to use a 90 minute disc. Or just rip them to MP3.

Will the BenQ recognize the 90 min CD-R? What's the 90-min equivalent to what I usually get for 80 min CD-Rs?

It should. You may need to go into the software (like Nero) and increase the maximum allowable size. I believe the 90-min discs are also called 800MB discs.

Don't have a clue anymore. I still have a mostly full Verbatim cake box but they are standard length. I know I used to be able to overburn to a certain extent depending on the disk.
I still have a 1655 that works and a 1640, plus a original 1620 from the original batches that got DL capabilities with the firmware update later.

Looks like media and burner should be OK with my 1655. Got an old version of Nero that still works. Under configure/general/status bar it shows yellow line at 74 mins and red line at 80 mins right now. Do I change this temporarily to 84 mins and 90 mins just before trying the 90 min CD-R? Also, under configure/expert features/overburning it shows enable disc-at-once cd overburning max CD size 82 mins. Do I need to change this at all?

OK, so a little more investigating and it looks like I have to do the second part of my question. About the first part, just ignore it? Thank you.

They came in early and it worked.:) Now, I need to try it again using EAC WAV files for 7 of the songs from the original CD.

Which ATIP do your 90Min CD-Rs have?

I bought some years exotic Mediarange 99Min CD-Rs (sold as 900MB, but should 870M) with 96m40s05f SKC-Code and it´s absolute awful media, (almost?) impossible to burn without C2-errors

They are Philips High capacity CD-Rs, 800 MB, 90 min, multispeed, made in taiwan.......the codes on the cylindrical package are CR8D8NB25/00 and 9082 100 04641. Let me know if you need more info and I'll try opening EAC or some other program to get the info. Thank you.

Thank you :)

Made in Taiwan, so it´s probably cMC or Ritek.

If you have Nero CD/DVD-Speed you can try the tab "Disc Info" to see the ATIP of the media

Still here!!!:) My 90-min CD-Rs are having trouble playing all the way through in my car stereo CD player (seem to start glitching around 87 minutes, at least one did today). Will try to remember to come back here when I play the others this week. I know I know, sorry to be so low-tech....lol

Probably doesn't like trying to read a disk stretched that far past what it expects to play. If you care might want to look for another player that reviews say can actually play them, provided the disks themselves have not degraded with time when you test them. My 06 Charger RT has a 6 disk CD player, tape , and satellite radio built in though I only use the radio so far and I'm thinking about swapping in my old Dual HD radio with a CD player in it because the radio sounds so clean with a good lock compared to the one in the car now.
