Hypermicro.com has the Ritek 4X media for less than $2.00 per disc for lots of 10 ea. Don't know if it is the same quality as the ones mentioned here but the prcie is certainly lower.
Boy this media dropped like a rock! I had given up on buying any for several months but at least one vendor is selling their 4X cheaper then their 2X! I guess we know what the media makers have been doing while we have been buying their junky 2X discs. I guess we were buying up all of the cull in the industry while they were busy making the new 4X media.

Thanks!
Unfortunately I still have about 25 blank 2X DVD-Rs (and about
12 1X DVD-Rs/2.4X DVD+Rs), but I really want to try these 4X out.

Sarcoptic, Where did you buy the 4X media? I just bought a 25 pak from Meritline and the first two I tried to burn at 4X with DVD Decryptor actually seemed to be burning at 2.3X. Which of course is achievable without 4X media. In fact I believe that on that particular disc I have burned it faster with 2X media. But perhaps it was +R so that would have made it faster then 2.3X. My Sony DRU-500A burns +R at close to 3X sometimes. Wish the 4X I bought was that fast.
Also, what software are you burning the 4X with? The description from your post sounds like about the same media that I have. Perhaps my drive is not working exactly right. Although it appears to work okay on the other speeds.
Thanks..........

THe exact discs I have are what are posted by Kennyshin at the beginning of this thread. They do not burn at 4X on a Sony DRU-500A. We have two of them here and these discs burn at about 2.3 X, max! That is with DVD Decryptor as the burning software.
I will try Stomp on my next trial but I am not too impressed at this point. I bought mine from Meritline which is even more spendy then most vendors of the Ritek 4X discs..........

Do you happen to have Nero CDSpeed? If so, can you tell us whether your Ritek discs are detected as G04? If not you may have some other discs.

I got mine from HyperMicro, ordered 25 pack of 2x and then a 10 pack of 4x. All worked perfect dont know what to tell you.

The Ritek 4X discs I am using are: Manufacturer ID: RITEKG04. They will not burn at 4X with DVD Decrytor, Stomp RecordNow MAx 4.50 or the latest version of Nero. We tested two Sony DRU-500A's with the 10f upgrade on both of them. The A05's however did burn them at 4X.

I think Meritline jacked up the price for the Ritek 4X DVD-R discs, they are now $2.85 each, only if you buy in bulk. A better price would be All Media Outlet which is selling the same discs for as low as $2.42 each.

Why would you bother when Hyper Micro has them for less than $2?

I'm just posting the deal, man, you don't have to honor it if you don't wish. America is all about choice. Now people have a choice where they want to buy from.

Ritek DVD-R 4x about 70 NTD in Taiwan (read some threads at PCDVD forum). That's about the same price at HyperMicro.

It seems Ritek 4x DVD-R price could fall under $1.5 by the end of this year and under $1.0 in Q1 2003 though many retailers will still sell them for over $2. No details on the delivery of 4x DVD+R from Ritek yet.
