Ok I got 2 new Artec 16X DVD drives from staples and have tried both and they only detect a DVD as audio in windows XP, Power DVD etc. Any suggestions on what to do? I also have a Pioneer A05 and it detects everything fine.

Perhaps Auto Insert Notification for that drive is disabled. Try enabling it.

I wasn't aware of this drive specific behavior in XP but perhaps you could do this:

Go into file types where it assigns the proggie to call up when you click on a file type and delete the file type for the one on your DVD. Then go to your DVD and click on a file and when it asks you for what program to associate with this file type point it to your program your trying to get it running with.

Sounds like you may also have two programs competing for the same file type.

I'm having the SAME problem with Artec

I just got the same dvd-rom, Artec 16x, and installed it along with a Benq DVDrw and am having the same problem with the Artec rading DVDs as audio. I have checked and recheck the connections, and everythings fine, but just cannot figure out what the deal is. I read another thread where someone had the exact same problem, but no one replied to it. I'm gonna have to return it if I can't get it working right. Please let me know if you got yours working. Thanks, Megan =)
