At the end of Ian's Review of LitOn LVW 5005 is :-" Region Free Hack " with no instruction's for applying it I have recently purchased one of these Recorders Living in the USA . I have several UK DVD's that I would like to watch would this Hack work & how do you do it. Also another question I have tried to copy several VHS tapes of movies but it stop's & will not copy them is there a method to do this. I do not know what BBCode is

The region free hack is pretty self explanatory:

"RIGHT" + "800" + region code you want + "ENTER"

Push the right navigate button, enter 8 + 0 + 0, the region code and then enter.

How are you coping the VHS tapes?

I am copying the VHS tapes by connecting the VCR to the TV so it shows as Video 1. I should describe the equipment I Have The TV is a Toshiba 27AF41 which has the capability to show TV,Video1,2,3. & Soundstream. The VCR is an old RCA Mono VCR & the DVD is the LVW5005. I have the VCR hooked to the TV with a set of cables that go from 2 RCA, white & Yellow to 3 Y,W,& Red. The DVD is attached to the TV with a component Video cable Green , Blue, & Red with Red & White Audio Connection Also. I use the Red ,Yellow & White from the Out on the back of the TV to the line in {composite signal input } on the DVD player.I hope this makes sense

Have you tried hooking the VCR directly to the 5005?

AH yeah.. gotta love Macrovision. I guess there are hacked firmwares to get around that, but I've never done it myself.

Explain more about what happens when you run it through your TV.

When I run it through the TV as soon as the VHS starts to play it shows stop on the 5005. TO clarify how I had it set up I went from the VCR To The Line in on the 5005 The way it was setup then was how the cable technician had set it . Coming out of the Cable converter into the DVD out of the DVD into the VCR out of the VCR into the TV with the Yellow ,White on the VCR Going to the Line in on the 5005. Hope this makes sense

Hello I have decided to wait to Copy the VCR tapes . Next year I will buy a Media Centre PC with the connections to hook the VCR to the PC. I am sure that I will be able to find software for the PC to do the job . One more Question on Region Free do I enter this in Setup?
Thank you for all your help . I thought it would be simple to do but we live & learn I look forward to reading more about PC's, Optical Drives, DVD's etc on the lists .I have just noticed I could have scanned a picture showing the hookup I have

If I remember right, you just do it at the main screen.

Hello List I searched on the net And found a forum in the UK for LiteOn . it mentions a web site That contains a Hack That removes Macrovision . Sets region Free & adds a 3hr to give 1,2,3,&4hr recordings . I Do not add the site until ian or someone says it is OK to do so. Plus it works

Hello go to this URL http://ilohacker.tripod.com/ read the instructions on the page. It gives all the information you will need . The hack takes out Macrovision. Makes the recorder Region Free plus it adds a 3hr recording time so you will have 1,2,3, & 4hr times
