I believe Emerson is a pretty cheapo brand, but that doesn't mean their products are not good. I have an Emerson VCR (a what???) that has worked well for years, but I'm not familiar with any of their DVD products.

In fact, I recently used ye ole Emerson VCR to capture an old movie to HDD and then burn to DVD, as it is not available on the DVD format.

I don't think Emerson actually manufactures anything anymore. If you do a Google search you can see that they're part of Redmond Group of Companies (RGC) which includes TDK, Sandisk, Koss and others.

I'd be more curious to know who the actual manufacturer of the dvd recorder is. (Edit: The Emerson EWR10D5 is made by Funai).

I have an old Emerson stereo circa 1980 that is still working well, but it's been re-allocated to barn duty now, so I suspect the humidity will speed up it's demise :( . Not exactly a Hi-Fi piece of kit though.
