Two words: Black Friday

We'll probably see a few Chinese manufactured BD players on sale for $200 or less come Black Friday. Sadly, they'll probably be Profile 1.1 and lack lossless audio support. Still, the average consumer will eat them up.

I doubt though a cheap Recorder version will come to the US very soon what with extremely high blank prices and the movie industry not wanting anybody to record anything in HD. Japan has some pretty cool ones I think for a LOT of money.

A stand alone recorder for Under $200?. soon. :-s :-? Hmm I don't think so.
I think Ian is right that Black Friday probably will result in some players being sold at that pricing level.

In europe we are currently seeing some PC writers below the 200 euro price level.

Depending on how fast the market develops and how fast cheap chinese manufacturers jump on it. I would say that it still takes at least 2 years from now for a standalone recorder being priced below 200 usd/euro's. :(
