There are some minor issues in viewing the latest version (15 June 2006) of the e-books with Adobe Reader 6.0 and 7.0.

In some PDF files, Adobe Reader will report "A drawing error occurred.".

You may want to try the FREE Foxit PDF Reader 1.3. I have tested it and there should not be any problems in viewing the PDF files.

To download the Foxit PDF Reader, click on the following link:

Even though Taiyo Yuden DVD writeable discs are widely acclaimed to be the best, they do degrade as well.

I have monitored two Taiyo Yuden-based DVD recordable discs over the months and the test results show that error rates on these discs increase.

For test results, please refer to the following link:

PIE/PIF disc quality scanning done on SUSE Linux 10.1 using QPxTool 0.5.3. QPxTool scans are compared against Nero CD-DVD Speed scans on a Benq 1640.

Maxell's Japanese media seems to hold up QUITE well in my previous tests.

Interesting post.

The Errors seem rise faster from the inner which is inline with TY's bonding problems.

And yet that's PIE only... the PIF seem to be along the outer edge where bonding problems are less likely (although I've seen it!).

So far even poorly bonded Maxell are holding up well! Especially when compared to that TY disc just linked to (or any TY disc in my own longevity studies) :o

I have a spindle of VERY poorly bonded Maxell 8x DVD+Rs (made in Japan), so I'll be conducting some tests on them with regard to lifespan

Yeah, I have some consumer MXLRG03 as well... the bonding isn't that great on it either, but it's less consistantly bad then MAXELL002. My Maxell Plus Series MXLRG03 is generally better bonded though.

It's a North American Professional/Industrial product that's usually only available from P/I dealers. I think Europe has similar higher grade offerings too, but they're probably quite expensive and hard to find.

Don't forget those also have Maxell's hardcoat (much like Amour Plated/Scratchproof TDK), which makes them at least loosely equivalent to the "Broadcast Quality" line sold in North America that cost ~$2.

My purpose in showing the disc quality scans over the months is to demonstrate that taiyo yuden DVDs, Supposedly the best brand, do degrade over time. Knowing degradation will occur will prevent consumers from having Over-confidence, and hence they will not check their dvd media from time to time.

To be fair, taiyo yudens don't degrade as fast as some of the other brands I have. I have Imation dvds that Failed in only 2-3 weeks! So far the taiyo yudens can hold out for almost one year in high humidity. But I can'T say so for 2-3-4 years because the age of my taiyo yudens haven't reached that stage yet. If you care to take good care of your discs, they should survive longer.

Yeah, Taiyo Yuden has been going downhill since they started making DVDRs. The lifespan on their 4x and 8x media was suspect, but by the time their 16x media came out, the quality was so poor that it's hard to even THINK about the lifespan. Their latest effort (DVD-RDL), the TYG11 is one of the worst DVDRDL discs on the market (not as bad as Prodisc's DVD+RDL, but not much better then Ritek's DVD+RDL!).

But I remember taht the TYG03 had a very good stability result in the c´t-review

Is the TYG11 good supported by the actual writers?

Unless I'm looking at the wrong post, I don't think C't tested any TY media other than TYG02 and YUDEN000T02 #-o
