Ok, so neither is what I'd consider a "great" burn but they are far from being horrible.

They're certainly not this good, or even this good, but they're still pretty good, considering what some burner/media combos can produce :o

Now, maybe other driver would do very poorly with these? I haven't tried these in the other 5 burners I have yet, but really see no point considering the Samsung results...

in general, TY's 16x media is poorly supported by most burners, and on top of that, the quality variations from disc to disc even in a single batch is enough to make even RITEK employees blush... and that's saying nothing of batch to batch variations.

Now tack on the fact that Taiyo Yuden is supposed to be a PREMIUM brand, and you've got a recipe for disappointment.

Yeah, after TY's 8x media kicked so much ass, their 16x media is kinda disappointing.

Maybe because (some)RitekR05 seem to be able to burn better as the TY disc's on some drives. YEah ritek.

12x With solidburn on this should be. And like the german folks said.
Da wird doch wohl kein TY Rohling mit RITEK ID "gefaked" worden sein ?

Roughly Translated It isn't a TY disc with fake Ritek ID ??

Wow, best I've seen from a Ritek! :o

I've been testing a fair number of the TY 16x DVD-Rs I have, and they seem to be pretty consistent. However, it's the only spindle I have (or have had), so I won't read too much into it.

I seem to have two drives that really like them; so I guess I'll keep using them until I see some bad results.

I still put the important stuff on Verbatiums :)

But those seem very variable. I had a spindle that would do 2.2PIE avg., with a PIF total of 9. Don't have the scans anymore, forgot a few things when I backed up the HDD to reformat

I test each batch, just to be sure...quite a few show some odd spikes near the beginning of the discs...

Some other point PC Consument finally tested TY made media. (Plextor branded) (TYG03 and YUDEN000T03) and it turned out quite bad. Average CD SPEED score of arround 55% (with Yuden000T03) if I recall correct.
RitekR05 and InfomediaR30 both outperformed the TY's !

Why are we comparing TY DVD-R to other companies' DVD+R media results?

Because we'd all like to pretend TY never actually released their 16x DVD+R... trust me, it's to TY's advantage this way

Comparte what you want but I also put off a indiciation of that test result for +R 16x TY. Which does work slightly better but not much.
