This weeks Office Depot ad has a spindle of 75 -R for $14.99. Wondering if anybody here knew who actually manufactures it and if it's any good?

Searched for Office Depot and came up with nothing.

They could be almost anything, and that is NOT a good price. Keep your eyes open, and you'll probably see brand name CD-Rs (Maxell, Fuji, Sony, Verbatim, etc) for less than this price on sale.

If you happen to see Fuji CD-Rs on sale in the coming weeks, check to see if you have access to "made in Japan" stock. If you do, stock up, because they're Taiyo Yuden, who is generally accepted to make the best *affordable* CD-Rs.

CD-R =/= DVD-R's

Above person is talking about a spindle of DVD-R and next the reaction is about cd-r's.

Still Office Depot can be anything.

ugh... I'm an idiot. I have NO idea why I thought the OP was referring to CD-Rs... the best excuse I can come up with is that it was early in the morning when I posted that

As far as Office Depot DVD-Rs go, they could also be a wide variety of MIDs. Assuming we're talking about the 16X DVD-Rs, I'd guess something like RITEKF1/CMCMAGAM3, both of which are quite lame (IMO). Videohelp has reports for RITEKF1 only, so that's what I'd guess to be most likely.

I'd recommend the Sony 8X/16X DVDR 50pks that are on sale this week for $13 @ Staples. The made in Japan variety, that can be identified by the white spacer on top (as opposed to gray), would be preferable to the Taiwanese stock.

thanks for the Sony tip. I guess I'll stay away from the Office Depot disc.

ETA:
Well, staples isn't have that sale I think it was from last week. So I went ahead and gave the Office Depot a try. -R is FUJIFIL03 which is pretty bad from what I've read. Wrapper on my spindle says made in Taiwan.

"FUJIFILM03 code is used officially by FUJI and licensed to Prodisc(taiwan), Ritek(taiwan), MBIL (india)."

Has two scans; one bad and the other good. My NEC doesn't do disc quality scans or I would submit my own.
