If this press release is true, we'll be seeing dual layer 50GB BD-RE media in a month or two.

Maxell is also offering rewritable Blu-ray media in single layer and dual layer configurations. The BD-RE provides 25 GB of capacity, while the BD-RE DL offers 50 GB, both at up to 2X recording speed.

All of the new Maxell Blu-ray media are available in the first quarter of 2007 and are compatible with all BD-compatible recorders, drives and video players. Pricing will be announced at the end of January.

considering Maxell doesn't make any of their BD-R/RE or HDDVD-R media, it's likely we'll see another press announcement, OR we just won't see the Maxell product appear (I'm guessing the latter for the moment).
