CD Shredder

Can anyone recommend a heavy duty CD shredder. I'm looking for something that can handle about 500-750 old CD's. Some with sensitive information. I want to recycle the CD scrap after so I just don't dump a bunch of polycarbonate in a landfill.

It just seems most models I see in retail stores are design as paper shredders first and the CD/DVD/credit card shredding is an after thought. I'm concerned these shredders will just overheat and break from the duty cycle.

How about taking a belt sander to them or cutting them in half on a band saw one spindle at a time?

Maybe dip them in an acid bath? Be careful!

Hey, I don't want to shortshrift Grain's contribution:
however, that machine still talks of disposing the remnants/dust responsibly.
That is, the polycarbonate is not recycled.
In reality, there is probably no method with which it can be recycled.

So then, what to do when they are going to a landfill without any other alternative?\
Well, I might suggest that which I do with my senstive papers.
No, I do not use a shredder.
I put them in a plastic bag with the dog stuff that I pick up in my back yard.
The bag goes out with the other refuse and on to a landfill. :D

If anyone wants my sensitive information bearing papers that badly,
they can have them. :P

Have I had my identity stolen yet? Not as a result of getting it from my dog stuff bag. :)

Will I let you know if and when my identity is stolen? Of course I will.

How will I do that, if somebody else is CowboySlim?

Well, I'll start a new account as MonteLDSII, silly! :P

Ha.

Thanks for suggestions. I don't think I have enough discs with information sensitive enough to require the DoD compliant shredder there. I did find this model though:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6846101201

I read about recycling the discs once so I figured some company out there must be using them for something. I haven't looked into it though.

Why don't you just snap them in 2? Use 2 pairs of pliers ..

What about a wood chipper? You could rent one for the day.

A microwave renders them useless in mere seconds, and you get a really neat light show!

But with that many CD/DVD's to dispose of, poor Jim may blow-up his house putting to many in the microwave!!! YIKES!!!

;) :) Well, as long as we're going THAT route, I prefer my 80# Jennings ArrowStar 4 Wheel, 2016 Alum shaft w/ Judo Points. ;)

Seriously, we've heard that this shredder is the one to have for the price: http://tinyurl.com/39uoqd or http://tinyurl.com/365ozh
